Dr. Nicole Sheehan

Veterinarian, Owner

Hometown: Strongsville, Ohio

Pets: Cooper (dog), Kaya (cat), Toby (horse)

Dr. Nicole Sheehan grew up in Ohio with a natural love for animals. While attending veterinary school at The Ohio State University, she completed an externship in Charlotte and fell in love with the area. She practiced in the Lake Norman area for 7 years, where she received additional training in ultrasound, behavior, and acupuncture. As her pets aged, she researched new ways to keep them healthy and happy longer and found many solutions she was looking for in the fields of nutrition and holistic or alternative medicine.

Dr. Sheehan left the Lake Norman area for 2 years to advance her practice in the areas of nutrition, Chinese medicine, and Holistic medicine. While still holding on to all that she learned about conventional medicine and surgery, she learned to integrate new alternatives to greatly expand her treatment options and outcomes for healing. These alternative options have allowed her to successfully reverse the diseases she previously could only medicate. Through this practice, she learned how to find subtle imbalances in the body to more effectively treat and prevent disease, properly make diet recommendations based on an individual animal’s needs, detoxify the unnatural substances out of her patients, and help older animals age more gracefully and with less pain.

Dr. Sheehan established The Veterinary Hospital of Davidson in 2013 to bring holistic pet care to the Lake Norman area, although she sees patients from all over North Carolina and the surrounding states as well.  While she continues to expand her treatment modalities each year, she currently holds the following advanced certifications:

  • Veterinary Acupuncture
  • Chinese Food Therapy
  • Veterinary Chinese Herbal Medicine
  • Meridian Autonomic Testing (Muscle Testing)

She has appeared on both Charlotte Today and Fox News Rising to discuss pet acupuncture and natural nutrition, and has appeared in several local publications and on the Dr. Leslie Radio show to discuss both traditional and holistic pet care.  She serves on the National Advisory Board for Vetri-Science, a national veterinary herb company and has been featured on commercials for their joint supplement, Glycoflex.  Currently she is collaborating with local universities in clinical trials for herbal supplements.  While she enjoys all medicine and surgery, she has a special interest in detoxification medicine and chronic tick or vector borne illnesses like Lyme disease.  She is available for both in-house examinations and also long-distance phone consultations.

Dr. Sheehan lives in Lake Norman. She has two young children, a rescue dog named Cooper, a rescue cat named Kaya, and a Paint horse named Toby. When not in the hospital caring for patients, you may see her running, hiking or riding with her kids and dog, enjoying a walk in the Carolina sunshine, relaxing in a yoga class, or enjoying the day out on Lake Norman.
